How difficult is it to
repair torn canvas or tent items yourself? Here are some ways you can
do tent or awning repairs yourself.
After cleaning the damaged area
to repair a small tear in your tent you should cover the damaged area with
cloth repair tape or ripstop nylon for nylon tents, or taffeta for canvas
tents. You will want to apply a patch to both sides of the tear and carefully
smooth the edges, so the patch does not snag or leak. Then you will want to
coat the edges of the patch with seam sealer on both sides. Allow the proper
drying time.
If you need to repair a
canvas awning you should apply vinyl repair glue to the outer perimeter of the
patch. The patch should go on the inside of the canvas. Press firmly with one
hand on each side. The glue will need the appropriate time to dry.
You can repair a tear in your
pool cover but first make sure the area around the tear is clean. When cutting
a patch be sure you cut it a couple inches or larger than the tear, round the
edges of the patch with your scissors, remove the adhesive backing on the patch
and apply a patch to both sides of the cover. Pool safety covers can be
repaired by using mesh or solid safety cover material. Apply glue to the patch
on both sides and press together with something heavy until it dries.
